Tiverton School official opening March 29th 2018
The official opening of Tiverton School took place on 29th March 2018 following on from the school’s Spring Fair and Easter Bonnet parade. The school was officially opened by Marc Albrighton, professional footballer with Leicester City, and the ribbon was cut by Caitlynn, aged 11, who pressed a switch to use battery operated scissors. The formal opening included a bubble blow, during which time pupils, families, staff and friends gave thanks for our new school and reflected on our hopes, dreams and aspirations.
The official opening of Tiverton School marked the culmination of many partnerships over the last few years to plan for the build of our new school. The previous school in Coundon, was very small and lacking in space and facilities our children need and deserve and we were able to meet the needs of only 42 children. Since moving into the new school in January this year, we have been able to offer places to 18 more children and there are plans for further increases in future. The quality of provision for the children, their families and staff is excellent and we look forward to the fantastic opportunities that are afforded by such a wonderful new school. We now have beautiful large, spacious and light classrooms, additional exciting learning spaces, pool, food technology room, sensory room and sensory integration room, creative arts room, library, soft play, kitchen garden area, therapy rooms and outdoor spaces.
We are also looking forward to extending our existing positive partnerships with Whitley Abbey Primary School with whom we share a campus and with the local community.
Throughout the process of designing and building the school, it has been a pleasure to work in partnership with Coventry City Council, IDP architects, Farrans construction and others to ensure that the project has been led by the needs of the children in the school and they have the high quality school they deserve.
We are very excited to be preparing for a move to a new school. Tiverton School is being rebuilt on the site of the former Alice Stevens School on a campus with Whitley Abbey Primary School and is due to open in spring term 2018. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Whitley Abbey Primary School for some excellent and exciting shared opportunities for our school communities.
We look forward also to getting to know our local community in Whitley and hope they will be regular visitors at events in our school; we hope they will also become familiar with our children whose enhanced learning opportunities will take them out into the local neighbourhood.
All children and staff have now visited the new school and are very excited - the most frequent response is “I can’t believe how big it is!” The opportunities will be fantastic, not only in having a beautifully designed new building, but also in the additional facilities of a library, pool, creative arts space, sensory room, sensory integration room, cookery room and lots of additional flexible spaces. The children are looking forward to having an outdoor learning space attached to each classroom and 2 additional classes for the additional 18 children who will be joining our school.
We are working closely with Coventry City Council, IDP Architects and Farrans contractors to plan a school which will offer the very best opportunities to the Tiverton pupils, families and staff. The school communities will be included in planning some exciting events for our journey from the existing school in Coundon to the new site in Whitley. As part of this process we will be celebrating some wonderful memories and achievements in our old school, and looking forward to beginning the exciting process of making memories in Whitley.
Thank you to the pupils from Whitley Abbey for completing a blog to update on the progress of our new school. You can view the blog here
